Important Safety Reminder
Horses are large animals and can be unpredictable. Please use caution at all times when working around horses and equipment.
General Safety Rules
- Use caution when working around horses.
- Never ride alone.
- Treat all horses with dignity and respect.
- All mounted riders must wear an ASTM/SEI-labeled riding helmet that properly fits.
- Medium/long hair must be in a ponytail; no clips or barrettes under helmets.
- Wear fitted clothes with shirt tails tucked in.
- Do not feed or pet horses without permission. Remember they may bite.
- No smoking on premises.
- No alcohol beverages on the premises.
- Please leave all dogs at home.
- Treat equipment and tack with care. Clean tack and return it to the proper location.
- No running or yelling around the horses.
- Never stand directly behind or in front of a horse.
- Always use a lead rope and halter to catch and tie your horse.
- Never wrap or tie anything attached to your horse around your body in any way.
- No eating, drinking, or chewing gum while riding.
- Place all trash in proper receptacles.
- No heavy jewelry while working around horses. Tall Cedars Farm is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Latch all chains on gates properly.
- Never leave horses in stalls with bridles or saddles on unless permitted by staff.
Required Riding Apparel

Riding boots or hard-soled shoes with at least a 1/2 inch heel are required at all times in the barn area and when mounted. Footwear must be durable, comfortable, and safe. |

Riding pants are strongly recommended. Long pants are required. Chaps are acceptable but not preferred for students who plan to show. |

Leather riding gloves may be worn to protect hands from blisters and cold weather. |

If you are planning to show, you may need clothing suitable for formal shows (show helmet, jacket, blouse, riding pants, belt, garters, etc.). Your instructor can help you compile a list of show apparel. |
